The “Emirati Division” participates in a workshop and a dialogue session on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meetings in Geneva

Geneva, 23 October / WAM / The Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council, represented by His Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the UAE Parliamentary Division Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Her Excellency Sarah Muhammad Falaknaz, Vice-Chairman of the Group, participated in a workshop and dialogue session organized by the Union on the sidelines of the work of the 151st Assembly held in Geneva.
His Excellency Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi participated in a workshop entitled “Parliamentary Mediation: Strengthening Preventive Diplomacy and Peacebuilding,” during which he stressed that parliamentary mediation represents an added value to the process of parliamentary work, as it allows parliamentarians to use their expertise in communication and negotiation to serve issues of peace and stability, through direct interaction with various parties, and understanding the needs of societies from the reality of their daily practices.
He explained that the success of mediation requires a balance between the political role and the role of the mediator, while maintaining neutrality and objectivity, noting that the spread of misleading information and the uncontrolled use of artificial intelligence imposes on parliamentarians a double responsibility to verify the accuracy of the information before adopting any position or mediation.
His Excellency added that parliamentary and diplomatic experiences have demonstrated the importance of setting clear time frames and qualified parties for mediation, in addition to the necessity of understanding the social and cultural fabric of local communities, and involving influential figures, including religious scholars and tribal leaders, to achieve understanding and reconciliation, stressing the importance of building the capabilities of parliamentarians in the areas of mediation, dialogue, and conflict management, as an investment that enhances parliamentary performance and contributes to consolidating peace. and sustainable development.
In a special dialogue session entitled “Addressing social norms that hinder women’s political participation and enhancing their leadership: male parliamentarians in the spotlight,” Her Excellency Sarah Falaknaz reviewed the UAE’s efforts to enhance women’s participation in political and parliamentary life, as she stressed that the wise leadership, since the founding of the country, has placed women’s empowerment at the top of its national priorities, and has been keen to provide them with equal opportunities in leadership and decision-making positions, making the UAE a global model in supporting women. And their full empowerment in various national and community work sites.
She touched on the challenges facing women in some societies, represented by social norms and stereotypes associated with their traditional roles, stressing the importance of parliamentary work in confronting these challenges by enacting supportive legislation and adopting awareness-raising initiatives that contribute to changing prevailing societal concepts.
Her Excellency stressed that achieving gender equality in political life requires international cooperation and the exchange of experiences between parliaments, which contributes to building a supportive environment for women parliamentarians and enabling them to contribute effectively to the process of sustainable development and societal peace.
