A bilateral meeting between the head of food safety and his Liberian counterpart

On the sidelines of the Forum of Heads of African Food Safety Authorities, which Cairo will host from December 10 to 11, 2025, Dr. Tariq Al-Houbi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, held a bilateral meeting with Priscilla Shiro, Director General of the Liberian Food Safety Authority.

 

The meeting discussed ways to enhance African cooperation in the field of food safety, and discussed opportunities to exchange technical expertise and best regulatory practices, and coordination in the areas of Inspection, accreditation of laboratories, training of cadres, and development of regulatory systems, which contributes to raising the level of food safety in the two countries.

The two sides also discussed the importance of activating the outcomes of the AFRAF Forum, and developing joint mechanisms to support the safety of food chains and enable intra-African trade, with a focus on building capabilities and harmonizing regulatory requirements to support exports.

Priscilia Ciro praised the pioneering Egyptian experience in developing the food safety system, stressing her aspiration to enhance cooperation and benefit from technical expertise. To the National Food Safety Authority.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties agreed to continue technical coordination and develop a framework for joint cooperation during the coming period, in a way that supports achieving sustainable food security and enhancing African integration in the field of food safety.
