The US military launched a series of strikes on Saturday dawn on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, according to US media reports, citing unnamed officials.
CBS News and Fox News quoted unnamed officials from the administration of President Donald Trump confirming the participation of American forces in the operation.
Neither the White House nor the Pentagon have yet commented on the explosions or reports of planes flying over the Venezuelan capital.
For its part, the Venezuelan government called on its supporters to take to the streets in the wake of explosions on Saturday.
The Venezuelan government accused the United States of attacking civilian and military facilities in several states, and no statements were issued from Washington.
Smoke was seen rising from an aircraft hangar belonging to a military base in Caracas. Electricity was also cut off from another military facility in the capital.
Citizens in various neighborhoods rushed to the streets. Some of them can be seen from a distance from different areas of Caracas.
