Usman Nurmagomedov retains the Professional Fighters Association “Road to Dubai” championship title

Russian fighter Osman Nurmagomedov was crowned the lightweight title in the third edition of the Professional Fighters Association tournament, “The Road to Dubai,” after defeating Briton Alfie Davis by submission in the third round, during the main bout of the tournament that Dubai hosted yesterday evening, Saturday, in the “Coca-Cola Arena.”
The tournament was held in cooperation between the Professional Fighters Association, the Dubai Sports Council, and the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, within the framework of supporting the emirate’s position as a global destination for hosting the most prominent international sporting events.
Nurmagomedov, who is 27 years old, raised his undefeated professional record to 22 victories, achieving the fifth successful defense of the lightweight title, confirming his status as one of the most prominent mixed martial arts stars in the world.
Nurmagomedov expressed his happiness with the victory, stressing that the plan was clear from the beginning. He said: “I achieved the victory as I planned. I made him exert a great effort, and with the passage of time the result was settled.” He thanked his father and his coaches for the continuous support.
In the co-main fight, Russian Ramzan Kuramagomedov was crowned the welterweight champion after winning a unanimous decision over his compatriot Shamil Musayev.
The tournament witnessed a number of other fights, as Frenchman Abdul Abduragimov defeated Canadian Kendley St. Louis, Russian Salamat Isbulaev defeated Peruvian Jesus Pinedo by technical knockout in the first round, while Iranian Boya Rahmani defeated American Carl Williams by submission in the second round.
In the women’s competition, Dutchwoman Denise Kielholtz defeated Brazilian Antonia Silvanidi by unanimous decision, while British Luke Trainer was able to submit Australian Rob Wilkinson in the first round.
Russian Habib Nabiyev defeated Egyptian Ahmed Sami by technical knockout in the second round, while Brazilian Johnny Gregory defeated Briton Haider Khan by submission in the first round.
