Queiroz sarcastically: The VAR assistant referee technique drinks coffee in the 2026 World Cup

The coach of the Ghana national team, the Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, sarcastically criticized the VAR technology after he claimed that England escaped a penalty kick and a red card in the match that brought together the two teams yesterday, Tuesday, and ended in a goalless draw, for the second round of Group 12 competitions in the group stage of the World Cup, currently being held in America, Canada and Mexico, and extending until next July 19.
In the last minutes, the Ghanaian players called for a penalty kick, due to the interference of the English player, Azrie Konsa, on the Ghanaian, Prince Adu. The same player was preceded by a collision with the England national team goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, in an incident that was awarded a penalty kick instead of a penalty kick, which prompted Queiroz, during the press conference after the end of the match, to look at an official of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), saying: “I am not sure that the video technology (VAR) is still working in the World Cup. Are we still… We use it, and does it really work,” he said, before adding: “I have some doubts about that, because another penalty should have been given to Ghana, and a clear penalty against England was ignored.”
Queiroz continued his sarcastic statements after the match to the international media, which were reported by the British newspaper “The Independent”, saying: “We had many chances, and my team was denied a penalty kick and a clear expulsion for Konsa, and I think the video assistant referee is on vacation or they went to drink coffee.”
He concluded his speech by saying: “I think they are happy, and I am also happy with the draw. I apologize for my sarcasm, but if I said this seriously, they would punish me, so I hope you understand that I am joking.”
Ghana occupies second place in the group standings with four points, on goal difference behind the leading England team, which is equal with it on the same score, as the two teams are one point ahead of the Croatia team, which is in third place, and the Panama team is at the bottom of the standings without points, officially leaving the competition.
