Argentina is in danger of losing more than one player before facing Spain in the World Cup final!

The Argentine national team is in danger of losing a number of its players before facing Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled to be held next Sunday evening (23:00 UAE time), due to a violation that may expose them to disciplinary penalties from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

The Argentine national team had reserved its place in the final after overturning its deficit against England to a thrilling 2-1 victory on Wednesday in the semi-finals, reaching the final for the second time in a row.

The Spanish newspaper AS reported that a number of Argentine players raised a banner carrying a political message related to the ownership of the Falkland Islands after the match, which may prompt FIFA to open an investigation and issue disciplinary penalties against them.

The newspaper added, “The possible sanctions may lead to the suspension of a number of players, which may deprive the Argentine national team of their services in the final match against Spain.”

She explained that “such incidents have previously been punished by FIFA,” citing the case of South Korean player Park Jung-woo, who was suspended for two matches after raising a political banner during the 2012 London Olympics.
