Voting begins in 20 districts of the first phase of the parliamentary elections

At exactly nine o’clock this morning, the polling stations began the work of the second day to receive voters wishing to cast their votes, for the individual seats in the districts canceled from the first round of the first stage of the House of Representatives elections, which numbered 19 districts, in addition to the runoff round for the same stage for the second district in the Itsa Center in Fayoum Governorate.

The advisors of the State Cases Authority and the Administrative Prosecution Authority served as heads of The polling subcommittees decided to resume work this morning in the electoral committees and centers after they – in the presence of the head of the security force of each committee and the candidates’ representatives – ensured the integrity of all the locks of the rooms designated for storing papers, as well as the ports of those rooms, and the seals that were affixed to those locks after putting red wax on them. And they reviewed the codes of those locks and matched them with the numbers recorded in the records of the procedures that they prepared yesterday and they signed and sealed them. Then they informed the general committees of that and announced the start of the voting process, which will continue until nine o’clock this evening.

At the end of the election day, the work of counting the voters’ votes is scheduled to begin, inside the headquarters of the sub-polling committees, where each sub-committee will announce the detailed numerical tally at the conclusion of the count. Voting cards, including the number of voters registered with the committee, the number of those who attended and cast their votes over the two days of voting, the number of valid and invalid votes, and the number of valid votes obtained by each candidate as well as the electoral list, and recording those numbers in the minutes of the committee’s work, then notifying the general committees and follow-up committees, which in turn will send them to the National Elections Authority.

The number of sub-polling committees in this electoral round is 1,775, distributed among the 20 constituencies that are witnessing the electoral process in 7 governorates.

The conduct of this electoral round comes in light of the decision of the National Elections Authority issued last November 18 to nullify and cancel the elections for individual seats in 19 electoral districts in 7 out of 14 governorates that constitute the first phase of the House of Representatives elections, after The Commission observed violations that marred the elections in those constituencies, which it said constitute fundamental defects that undermine the integrity and legitimacy of the voting and counting processes.
